Day 1 New Mexico: Sandia Peak
Hello! Welcome to my first blog post! Buckle up, I have a lot of photos to show you from this trip!
We went to New Mexico originally for the Gathering of Nations pow wow. We have wanted to go for a long time and last year when we looked up the 2024 dates, it happened to be during my birthday! It was meant to be for my big 3-0! We stayed in Albuquerque the whole time, with one day trip to Sante Fe. Both cities were beautiful and when we go again I definitely want to stay in Sante Fe.
We stayed at the Luna Loft Airbnb in Albuquerque. It was much shorter than it looked in the pictures. My husband is 6’6 and definitely had to duck so he didn’t hit his head on a lot of doorways. He barely fit in the shower lol.
Day 1 was a little late start for us because we flew in late the night before and were exhausted. I mean, it is vacation so why wake up super early the first day, right? We did Sandia Peak in Cibola National Forest. It was perfect weather with a surprise at the top! We took the tram all the way up which took about 15 minutes. Looking down at all the trees they looked so tiny, but they were all over 100 feet tall! Once we reached the end of the tram ride, there was SNOW! More snow than we had all winter in Minnesota lol! We hiked up to the peak which took us about 2 hours. We were hiking through snow and some areas was about 3 feet which was pretty scary, because it didn’t look deep until you stepped and your whole leg just went under. It was a beautiful, but hard hike.
After we left, we got ready do go to my birthday dinner a day early because we had a lot planned for my actual birthday! We went to Farm & Table, which I highly recommend! It was so delicious and a beautiful farm! If you want to read about it, here’s their website: https://farmandtablenm.com/about/#farm
